YANMAR Racing Match Race Germany Final Day

A cloudless clear fine day. It’s going to be the usual condition of Match Race Germany. Today is the final day of Match Race Germany. YANMAR Racing sadly missed opportunities to win semifinal yesterday, but we would definitely like to stand on the podium. We would want to finish Match Race Germany with a win in the petit-final today! The race format of the petit-final; first two wins out of three matches make a win.

YANMAR Racing competed against Mathieu Richard (FRA) for the third place. As expected, the first match was in the slight wind. YANMAR Racing was little over the start line and we had to restart. With a nice wind from the right ocean surface, YANMAR Racing caught up in the tacking match with Mathieu Richard, but he got ahead of us at the windward mark. He was right behind us in the downwind but turned to a different direction when YANMAR Racing did a dummy jibing. After the tactical battle at the time to turn around the leeward mark, YANMAR Racing stepped forward by 3-boat length with dynamic spinnaker down and boat handling. This was decisive in getting the first win.

For the second match, the slight wind turned into high wind just like yesterday, but not blowing in as it was yesterday. Mathieu Richard was aggressive from the beginning as he was at the end of the rope. Despite our intent, YANMAR Racing had to start from the right side, Mathieu Richard from the left. The light wind kept blowing for the YANMAR Racing for a while, but gradually the wind speed got picked up and we forced Mathieu Richard to tack. The nice wind continued to blow to help us stay far ahead of Mathieu Richard. Today we had a power to get a lucky break. As a result, YANMAR Racing succeeded in defeating Mathieu Richard straight 2-0. YANMAR Racing finished third rank in Match Race Germany. Thank you for the encouragement!
