Season’s Greetings!
YANMAR Racing has finished 2009 WMRT season with tour standing of 4th place.
We would like to convey our gratefulness for your support in throughout the year!
From Peter Gilmour, Skipper:
I am very proud to have represented YANMAR on the international stage as a member of their sailing team. YANMAR Racing performed really well with a 4th place overall and it was great to be back together again as a solid team racing on the WMRT. It was exciting at the final event (Monsoon Cup) if Adam Minoprio had not made it to the quarter finals we could have been racing off against Ben Ainslie for the World Title!
Consistency is important and achieving top level results all the time is what counts, we need to do more earlier so that it does not come down to the last event. Building upon the momentum of 2009 for a great year in 2010 will be important for YANMAR Racing.
Our target is to be in the top three, hopefully winning the Tour!
From Yasuhiro Yaji, Pitman:
We had good challenging this year. Look at the result, some race was not so good, but we had very close races, just a little mistake we did. YANMAR Racing has good potential and we know that solutions. I have good memory in Match Cup Sweden, YANMAR Racing was tough races in Quarter-Final, but team did good crew work and very strong mental.
Finally we got 3-2 into Semi-Final and Final . In Match Cup Sweden was first cerebration for YANMAR Racing!
We got 4th places 2009 WMRT ranking. YANMAR Racing should get more higher results 2010.We need more accurately crew work, communication, tactics, boat handling, should do more effort for the YANMAR Racing.
From Thierry Douillard, Head Sail Trimmer:
We made a good season with 1 win and 3 times finish 3th. We were really close to do a very good result too on few event, lost 2 times 3/2 in quarter and one time 3/2 in semi, so we can say it's a good first season for YANMAR Racing and we were very close to finish in the top 3 overall. The better point for me is to see and feel the support from YANMAR company during all the year.We met several different people from the company but also the
customer, each time was a good time to discuss and share, it's a good think to understand more our way of working and improving.
For 2010 we have to keep working in this way and play for the podium and the title.
We saw during this year, that changing crew is not so easy, I expect to have the same team for all season next time. Also arriving few days before the event to have a small practice and rest together is a good point I think, especially when we have big jet lag.
From Kazuhiko Sofuku, Bowman:
2009 was a very busy year for me but it was an honor to participate in the 3 regattas of the WMRT as a YANMAR Racing crew. I am personally deeply disappointed that we missed the victory at the last event of Monsoon Cup although we made a favorable win in Sweden along with 3rd place in Germany and Malaysia. I would take this into my heart to make a breakthrough in 2010.
My goal for 2010 is to continue to sail with YANMAR Racing as much as possible and to contribute to a tour victory, with the aim of winning every race we take part in.
From Cameron Dunn, Main Sail Trimmer:
Firstly it has been an honour to sail with such a professional and talented team. YANMAR Racing has had a good year, finishing 4th overall in our first season together is a very good performance. I think we have set a very good platform as a team to take our performance to a higher and more consistent level next year.
I think our goals have to be to finish in the Top 3 for the season, with the aim to win the WMRT. We will have to consistently make the semi final and of course win a few of the events along the way.
From Martin Berntsson, Bowman:
I was impressed by the genuine, positive atmosphere in the boat, even in moments when things didn't worked out as they should. Also impressed by the strong focus to build a team as fast as possible then new team members came along.
Continue to build the team and improve our performance. By doing that, win WMRT-events and become Champions of the Tour in the end of next year.
From Keith Swinton, Trimmer:
Being given the opportunity by Peter and YANMAR Racing to sail in the Korea Match Cup 2009 was very valuable and enjoyable. I was disappointed that we didn't win our quarter final series I just wanted to do more racing. Sailing with one of the worlds best sailing teams was a great learning opportunity for me. Some of the techniques I learnt sailing with YANMAR Racing have helped me develop as a match racer. Our team Black Swan Racing had a strong year the highlights include winning the Bentley Geneva Match Race, The Trapani International Match Race and defeating 2007,2008 World Match Racing Champion Ian Williams in the Sunseeker Australia Cup quarter final and go on to take 3rd place.
I would jump at the chance to sail with YANMAR Racing again. I will be in the gym just in case! I would like to do more World Match Racing Tour events as skipper for Black Swan Racing and sail against the best.
From Jan Reblin, Bowman:
I'm very proud to be a member of YANMAR Racing and to represent YANMAR not only in the world of sports. The weeks with the team are the highlights of the year of my racing schedule.
To practice hard and to give always 100% to support YANMAR Racing in the WMRT 2010!
