December 20, 2004 YANMAR Co., Ltd
Yanmar has developed a new series of small industrial single-cylinder
air-cooled diesel engines, the L-V, which complies with the Tier II Emissions
Regulation of the EPA. The L-V series is based on the current L-A and L-E series
engines, with the introduction of further Yanmar exhaust emission and noise
reduction technologies.
Yanmar's current L-A and L-E series have been used widely in agricultural
machinery, small construction machinery, generator sets and other industrial
machines in every part of the world during the 15 years since their first
release as the world's leading single-cylinder air-cooled diesel engines.The L-V
series is a fresh extension of Yanmar?s C&S (clean and silent) engine
concept. The engine dimensions and shape remain identical to those of current
models for convenient mounting on diverse machinery types.
The production and sale of the L-V series will be inaugurated in January
2004 by Yanmar Italy of Cassano Magnago, Italy for worldwide distribution.
1.Aims of Development (1)To comply with emissions regulations
- Tier II Emissions Regulation of EPA, U.S.
(2)To reduce noise levels in response to strong market demand for quieter
engines
2. Features of the New Engine
(1) The direct injection system achieves superior fuel economy and starting
performance, and reduced exhaust emissions
- The displacement has been increased compared with current models to
satisfy exhaust gas regulations and obtain higher reliability.
- Exhaust gas emissions are stabilized at a low level by high-pressure
FO injection and precise matching of the pump, nozzle and piston combustion
chamber, raising reliability and making maintenance easier.
- The cylinder block and other major engine parts were analyzed for the
optimum structure.Combined with the improved injection system, the engines are
substantially quieter than the current series.
(2) Specifications for mounting on various machinery types remain identical
to those of current models to facilitate convenient replacement:
- Basic layout (FO tank, air cleaner and exhaust muffler)
- PTO shaft position and dimensions
- Engine installation feed dimensions
- External dimensions
