Yanmar wishes to inform that we have searched for 77 units that have been produced from June 1997 to Sep. 2006. We are continuing a program for replacement of the lifting eye for 6KYM-ETE engines.

It is possible that the lifting eye may have a crack. This crack may expand due to vibration of the running engine, and the strength of the lifting eye could be compromised.

Therefore we started a program for field replacement of the lifting eye in May 2006, however we could not locate several engines. The program is therefore not completed.

The breakage of the lifting eye may cause an engine to drop and disperse parts of the engine when utilizing the lifting eye lifts the engine.
FOR REFERENCE
The engine weight is 1500 kg without marine gear; Yanmar marine gear weight of YX161L is 600 kg. The hoist, crane , wire and chain capacity also must be used for more than 2100 kg.

Yanmar would like kindly inquire about related person such as owners, sailors, dealers, ship builder and technical persons of these engines, who may be able to assist in conveying the message to 6KY engine owners that have not been located:

“Please don’t use the lifting eye for lifting engines in any time”.

Moreover please inform us of the location of vessel or engine immediately, we will send the replacement program as soon as possible to the location.

The missing engines list is attached and the serial number is printed on the engine name as shown below.
